Where to locate open/close sensor on garage car door?

I have a window/door open/close sensor I would like to use on a garage door. I'm not looking to control the door. I want to use the sensor to create an event. The problem is where to mount the magnet. I tried it on the side but when opening closing the door the magnet gets clipped on the rails. I can't mount at top of door because it will get clipped by the leading edge of the bottom panel. Aside from mounting the magnet on some 6in piece of wood and wrapping around the rails some funky mount for the sensor, I'm at a loss where to mount the hardware. Any ideas?

You can place the sensor an magnet like this.

Hope this helps.

Possibly. If that is the track where the chain/belt drive is our bars are horizontal not vertical like yours. But that does give me an idea. Thanks Brooks!
